SUPER HOLIDAY

We were now guests at Mrs. Spieß for the second time. We liked it just as much as the first time. The apartment offers everything you need. We had two medium-sized dogs with us, who felt very comfortable there. Everything is very quickly reachable on foot. We would love to come back.

The holiday home is centrally located, with the beach, dining, and retail easily accessible on foot. Conclusion: A place to unwind and enjoy.

A vacation apartment to feel good – like a second home

We had a wonderful stay in the holiday apartment and felt at home from the very first moment.

The layout of the apartment is excellent, the rooms are sufficiently large, and the living room offers plenty of space to relax. The kitchen is also generously designed and really very well equipped – there is absolutely nothing missing. The terrace is a real highlight: a large cantilever umbrella provides pleasant shade, and the lounge furniture is so comfortable that one could sit there for hours. For families with small children, the apartment is also ideal – there is even a small sandbox and a nice lawn area for playing.

The location is pleasantly quiet, yet the center can be reached in just a few minutes on foot. There is also a discount market nearby, so one can quickly get everything they need. We felt completely comfortable and can recommend the vacation apartment without reservation.

Which sights are there in Westkapelle?

Attractions Beyond the Dike

The lighthouses of Westkapelle are among the unique attractions of the area. Particularly, the architecturally unusual Vuurtoren Hoog lighthouse will capture your attention. 179 steps lead up to a viewing platform at 40 meters high, from where you can enjoy a magnificent view over the sea and Walcheren. Admission there costs 3 € per person. (As of November 2023) Near the dike is the Polderhuis, a small but fine town museum, which holds remarkable exhibits about the tumultuous history of the place. The focus of the exhibition is on the time of World War II. In this category also falls the Sherman Tank monument, a tank of the Allies, which you can see on the dike. Other attractions of the small resort include the Village Mill De Noorman, the only one of the originally three mills in the area. A leisurely walk takes you to the Kreek, an inland lake that was created by flooding and destruction of the town during World War II.

What do you need to experience in Westkapelle?

Westkapelle: Your Best Excursion Destinations on the Peninsula

Middelburg boasts a number of attractions worth a day trip. These include the most beautiful Gothic town hall in the Netherlands and the unusual Oostkerk, the round church in the classical style. Something very special is the Herenstraat Synagogue, which should also be on your plan. Veere is a charming Dutch town with an idyllic harbor and many old attractions. The old Scots houses from the 16th century contribute to its special atmosphere. The beautiful churches and the town hall, as well as many townhouses of the wealthy citizens, testify to the prosperity of the former Hanseatic city. Tasteful boutiques, antique shops, and cafes round off the atmospheric cityscape. The place is protected from the North Sea by a large sea dike. Also, take a walk along this. Simply rent a cozy Werstkapelle holiday apartment by the water and experience an unforgettable beach holiday with your loved ones.

What can you experience in Westkapelle with children?

Wonderful Beach Holiday with Pets and Family

Rent a beautiful holiday apartment with a garden in Westkapelle and feel like you are on holiday on the Riviera, as the coastal region from Domburg in the north to Zoutelande in the south is often referred to. Long fine sandy beaches connect the places and are wonderful for romantic walks. Small beach huts can be rented directly on the beach and are real conveniences for travelers with children, who can lock all their bathing and beach equipment inside. The Netherlands and its landlords are child-friendly and open to pets. So do not hesitate, and plan a holiday with your dog in Westkapelle right away. Dreamy long coastal stretches and dunes, where dogs are allowed all year round, start right outside the door of your pet-friendly accommodation. Numerous hiking trails in the gentle landscape invite you to explore together with your dog. Take an extended beach walk to neighboring Zoutelande. The place has the only beach in the south of the Netherlands and boasts its location, beaches, and restaurants. Worth seeing here is the Bunker Museum from the time of the German occupation in World War II.

Where can I eat out in Westkapelle?

Fish, Oysters, and More from the Sea

Near your holiday apartment in Westkapelle, simple yet wonderfully relaxing beach pavilions await you. Here you can enjoy the beautiful view of the sea and a fine sandy beach under your feet. The culinary specialties on the Walcheren peninsula come – as expected – fresh from the omnipresent sea daily. The North Sea delights gourmets with mussels, oysters, herrings, and flounders. The mussel stew with white wine or vegetable broth is wonderfully light. Traditionally, thick-cut French fries or baguette are served with it. Oyster lovers will equally find their delight here. Oysters gratinated or topped with cheese are a delicious specialty that you must try. Lightly sparkling wines or effervescent sparkling wines are the right drinks for this. Delicious regional beers also go well with delicately fried flounders or fresh matjes. Look for the quality seal “Zeker Zeeuws”, which distinguishes genuine Zeeland regional products.

What is a must-see in Westkapelle?

Ancient Traditional Festivals Kept Alive in Westkapelle

Make sure to rent a holiday apartment for the whole family in Westkapelle on the first weekend of July. Then you will enjoy the famous, over 400-year-old fair. The main event is the so-called Gaaischieten: Participants shoot self-cast lead bullets at English ships, which symbolize three ship models. The Ring Riding, held in Westkapelle in July and August, is the second highlight among Zeeland's traditional festivals. This special equestrian and carriage tournament dates back to medieval knight tournaments. Then as now, riders must pierce a small ring raised on a line with their lance at full gallop and bring it to the finish as a trophy.
